Algaia involved in European algae analyses standards March 8, 2019
The European Commission has been working on standardising algae and algae-based products as a result of the significant growth of the seaweed industry in Europe. Algaia, a GENIALG partner sustainably-producing seaweed and other algal extracts for agro-nutrition, personal care and nutraceutical industries, participated as part of the French delegation to standardise algae analyses. Franck Hennequart, Director of Innovation at Algaia was part of the team of experts developing standards and protocols. Standards being developed include classification, terminology, algae processing and determination methods for algae and algae-based products immediately derived from or used in algae production processes. Specifications for food/non-food sector applications will be developed as will specifications for feed/non-feed sector applications. Product test methods will also have protocols.
